The hospital administration has ordered a formal inquiry after a woman delivered a premature baby at the main gate of the Vidisha District Hospital on Thursday night. The incident has triggered widespread protests from relatives and bystanders who alleged severe medical negligence and a lack of timely attention from the hospital staff. The newborn is currently admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and remains in critical condition.

According to family members, Sukhvati Bai, a resident of Sahastabad village in Sironj tehsil, was referred to the district hospital due to high blood pressure and premature bleeding. She was in the seventh month of her pregnancy and arrived at the facility around 1:00 PM on Thursday. While the patient was admitted and administered initial intravenous fluids, her family claimed that staff failed to monitor her deteriorating condition or update them on her health. Relatives further alleged that attendants were actively asked to leave the ward during the evening.

The situation escalated at approximately 9:40 PM when Sukhvati Bai developed severe labor pains. As her family attempted to move her out of the ward to seek help, she delivered the baby directly at the hospital’s main entrance. Family members stated that no doctors, nurses, or midwives came to assist immediately, leaving the newborn unattended on the ground for several minutes before medical staff finally intervened to shift the infant to the NICU.

The incident sparked immediate outrage, leading to a large commotion on the premises. Local law enforcement arrived shortly after to restore order. “We reached the hospital after getting information about the commotion and brought the situation under control,” said Kotwali Police Station SHO Anand Raj on Friday. “The hospital administration is conducting an enquiry into the matter. Police will take further action if any complaint requiring legal action is received.”

District Hospital Civil Surgeon Dr. Anoop Verma confirmed that the patient had been admitted immediately upon arrival from Sironj Hospital, adding that a thorough investigation into the timeline of events and the staff’s conduct is underway.
